Bacon lovers head straight to Sherbrooke for 2-day festival

Bacon lovers from across Quebec are heading to Sherbooke for the long weekend event that worships the delicious breakfast meat.

It's a weekend devoted entirelyto the incomparable andmouth-watering salty treat.

Bacon lovers from across Quebec are heading to Sherbrooke for the long weekend event that worships the best(yes, that's uncontested) breakfast meat ever invented.

There is bacon available en masse in its original, greasy and most heavenly form for purists.

For the more adventurous, there aredishesand drinks devoted to thetastiest partof the pig, from hamburgers completely covered in bacon to Bloody Caesarslightlygarnished with strips of the cured meat.

Organizers say they are serving of 530 pounds of it at the second annual Festival du baconfor those who love the smell, sizzle and savory taste of bacon.

Bacon enthusiasts are invited to partake intastings, live music, cooking workshops, two separate parades (one of which is devoted to beards for some reason), a bacon run and even a dance party dedicated to celebrating the well-loved meat.

In the Eastern Townships, the two-day event kicked off with a fun run of fivekilometres so that festival-goers could burn off the calories from the weekend except they were rewardedwith a box of pre-cooked bacon for their efforts.

Last year's festivalwas sopopular that there are dozens of cooks and mixologistswaiting to serve up sizzling bacon to the 30,000 peopleexpected to attend.

The weekend will wrap up with stuffed attendeesflocking to the dance floor to show their love for bacon.Organizers hope to achieve the highest number of bacon dancers ever.

Entry is $5 for adults and free for children atdu Domaine-Howard Park in Sherbrooke this Saturday and Sunday.
