Ski jump plans for Olympic Stadium tower take off

Ski jumpers could soon be barrelling down the tower of Montreal's Olympic Stadium, if the dreams of a Montreal-based event company come to fruition.

The event, Skying Montreal's Big Air, would take place in 2017 during the city's 375th anniversary celebration.

Dany Beaudoin, co-founder of Inbox Events, said his company is currently working with engineers to plan the test jump next year and, if all goes well, the full event will be a go.

The plan will see a platform and a snow covered, fence enclosed structure installed on the curve of the Big O tower. Skiiers will travel downa120-metrejump, cross a gap and land on another structure.

The city and the province has already committed $250,000 to help pay for the testing phase of the event.

Beaudoin said he's confident that the technical details will be worked out and the event will go ahead.

He's working with the venue now and has been up to the spot where the jump would be installed.

"It's pretty impressive," he said.

"It's a lot of wind. It's a pretty nice [place] to see Montreal so it's gonna be pretty cool to see those athletes open the door, jump and slide down."
