4 Terrebonne councillors step down from mayor's party, become independents

Four city councillors from Terrebonne who were elected alongsideMayor Jean-Marc Robitaille announced Monday that they would no longer serve under his banner.

RalLeclerc,BrigitteVilleneuve, NathalieBellavanceand Claire Messier will now sit as independents on city council.

Robitaillehas been under the microscope for the past few years, but Leclerc said he felt uncomfortable afterQuebec's anti-corruption unit (UPAC) raided the mayor's office and homein July inconnection with the awarding ofpublic contracts.

"When you know that there are warrants signed off by a judge, etcetera, there could be other things that follow," Leclerc said.

"I don't want to be associated with that."
