Woman dies after savage Longueuil bike path assault

A woman in her 20s has died the morning after she was savagely beaten on a bike path in Longueuil, Que.

A woman in her 20sdied this morning after she was savagely beaten on a bike path in Longueuil, Que.

The woman, who has not yet been identified by police, was found late Tuesday night on a bike path between Chambly Road and Normandie Street.

She was not carrying any identification.

"We are still havingtrouble in identifying this person," saidConst. TommyLacroixof Longueuil police.

The bike path runs through most of Old Longueuil, on Montreal's South Shore, and is a popular route during the day. However, the path is not frequently used at night.

The woman was found in the section of the bike path that runs through Paul Pratt Park.

Lacroix could not confirm whether she was on foot or bike.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene after receiving a call around 10 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Policeset up a command post overnight. Threewitnesses the man who called 911 and two others police found nearbywerequestioned by investigators.

Police are still trying to determine whether they aresuspects or if theyarrived after the woman had been assaulted, said Lacroix.

Investigators are still combing the park and cemeterynear the bike path for evidence.

They are asking for possible eyewitnesses and anyone who may have information on the assault to contact the Longueuil police.
