Police, canine units canvas Lachute in hopes of finding Yvon Lacasse

After a missing Quebec boy was found safe and sound, the Sret du Qubec have set up a command post in Lachute, Que., as the search continues for a missing 71-year-old man.

The Sret du Qubechave set up a command post in Lachute, Que., as the search continues for missing 71-year-old YvonLacasse.

Provincial police saidLacasse'sHondaCR-Vwas used by Ugo Fredetteinvolved inthe recent Quebec Amber Alert case.Theboy wasfound safe and Fredettewas arrested Friday.

The mobile command post has beenset up inLachutenear the intersection ofroutes 158 and 329.

Investigators and canine units are canvassing the municipality as part of a search team, said SQ Lt. Claude Denis. The search team is also using helicopters and all-terrain vehiclesto cover more ground.

Police sayLacassecould have been dropped off by Fredette along his route fromLachute, which took him throughManiwakiandRouyn-Norandabefore entering Ontario.

Investigators arefocusing their search near a roadside rest stop where Fredette's white pickup truck was abandoned.

Lacasselives in Gore, Que., a small community located about 18 kilometres north ofLachute. Both his family and his neighbours are worried for his safety, with dozens combing the Lachute area in hopes of finding him.

"Everyone knowsYvon," said Maggie Basquill, a neighbour ofLacasse. "He's always in a good mood."

Lacasseis described as bald with brown eyes. He is fivefeet four inches tall and weighs around 155 pounds.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 911 or1-800-659-4264.
