Cape Maringouin trail draws praise from outdoor adventurer

Calixte LeBlancof Monctonis an avid outdoor adventurer who hasbeen exploring the Canadian outdoors and travelling the world for the past 15 years,documenting it through photography and videography.

For his first CBC adventure for Information Morning in Moncton, LeBlanc went for a hike along the Cape Maringouin trail in Lower Rockport.

He says the trail is "beautiful from the get-go,"perfect for a short day trip.

"It's amazing what's close to our fingertips and the Fundy area is really nice with the tides and all of that and the ocean how it meets the coast, so I was really impressed when I went there."

Hikers are rewarded with a view of Shepody Bay.

"And if you want to, you can scramble down to the cliff. Now that might not be for everyone, but it's definitely something you're going to want to think about when you get there."

LeBlanc recommends checking the tide chart before you go so you'll know ahead of time whether you'll have access to the shore.

Difficulty: Easy

Hiking time: 2 hours return

Trail condition: Some wet

Access:Take N.B. 106 west out of Sackville.Turn south (left) onto N.B. 935 towards Wood Point and Rockport.Follow this road (first paved, later gravel) for 20 km.Continue straight into a dead-end road as N.B. 935 turns right at a 90-degree angle. After 5.2 km the road ends at a primitive turnaround at Slack's Cove. The trailhead is straight ahead.

The trail: The trail leads into the woods to a clearing on the left at 0.8 km. The foundation of an old homestead can be seen here.The trail continues on a gentle downward slope to a fork at 1.8 km.The left fork is a 200-meter side trail leading to a spectacular cliff.The main trail continues straight for another 400 meters where another fine view across the Shepody Bay can be enjoyed.
