A Fredericton-area couples holiday passion has transformed into a Christmas beacon that's attracting hundreds of people and raising money for a good cause.

Dany and Catherine Falles massive holiday display in Lincoln contains 20,000 lights, which is 5,000 more than last year. The lights are synchronized to flash along with Christmas songs on a 47-minute loop.

In order to bring the display to life, the couple rolled out more than 914 metres of extension cords and used 40,000 zip ties to place the lights on their property.

The popular display has created so much excitement that the normally quiet street has turned into a giant parking lot at times.

"Somebody told us there were more than 175 cars waiting in line. And I think from the Lincoln Road to the front of our house it's exactly 3.1 kilometres. And it was an exactly 3.1 kilometre traffic jam," he said.

The Christmas display has turned into a huge hit in the area.

As more people were coming to watch the display, the Falles decided to help raise some money. Now, spectators have the option to leave a donation box on their front lawn for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"We've been associated with them since Dec. 13. As of [Thursday] night, we passed the $6,000 mark," Falle said.

Falle said he and his wife are proud their display has brightened Christmas for so many people and that the hard work was worth it all.

"Well, one song takes 18 to 25 hours to sequence. We have 18 songs all total," he said.

As for his electricity bill for the holiday display, Falle said NB Power should be sending them a Christmas card in appreciation.

"They still have only two days. If they don't come, then I would say they are Ebenezer Scrooge," he said.
