Curtis day-parole appeal denied

The National Parole Board has upheld a decision denying unescorted day passes to a man convicted of second-degree murder in the death of a Miramichi shopkeeper.

Scott Curtis was sentenced to life in prison for his part in the murder of John Glendenning in 1986.

Todd Matchett and Miramichi-area serial killer Allan Legere were also convicted for their roles in the murder.

Curtiswas granted day parole in September of 2001. The board noted at that timethathehad beenconsidered a troublemaker and manipulative, but in 1995 he started changing his ways.

The parole board cancelled Curtis's day passes in September of 2006.

Curtis appealed the decision, but the parole board said Thursday previous attempts at releasing Curtis into the community have failed and extreme caution must be used in this case.

The board also says its decision to cancel Curtis's unescorted passes is reasonable and consistent with the law.
