Former Saint John councillor John Ferguson, who is being sued for defamation by the city's pension board, is continuing his testimony on Monday.

The pension board is suing Ferguson for alleged defamatory comments he made starting in 2005 about the board's handling of the pension fund, which had a $47-million deficit at the time. The deficit has since jumped to more than $190 million.

Ferguson told the court on Thursday that hewrongly claimed a senior lawyer had told him about evidenceof negligence at the city's pension board.

But he defended that statement saying the issue is minor because he believes there actually was gross negligence at the pension board.

Ferguson also testifiedon Friday.

Theex-Saint John councillor told the court on Mondaythat as difficult as the pension boards lawsuit against him has been, he would do it all again.
