Charges laid in SUV-motorcycle collision at Fredericton roundabout

A 40-year-old Fredericton man is facing six charges in connection with a collision between an SUV and a motorcycle at a roundabout on Sunday night.

A 40-year-old Fredericton man is facing six charges in connection witha collision between anSUV and a motorcycle at aroundabout on Sunday night.

Robert Drew Shannonwas charged Tuesday with two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, one count of breach of a judge's undertaking, and one count under the Motor Vehicle Act of driving while suspended,Fredericton policespokespersonAlycia Bartlett said in a statement.

The man and woman who were travelling on the motorcycle remainin hospitalwith "serious injuries," Bartlett said on Wednesday afternoon. No other details were available.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges against Shannon are still being considered, she said.

Shannon remains remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Friday afternoon for a bail hearing.

The collision occurred at the traffic circle atCliffeStreet and Two Nations Crossing just after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, saidBartlett. Police, firefighters and paramedics responded.

Shannon, the lone occupant of the SUV, was also takento hospital andlater released.
