Genevieve Cormier's body found in Saint John

The body of Genevieve Cormier, aNew Brunswick teen who had been missing since late September, has been found on a beach in Saint John, police said.

The 19-year-old was last seen on Sept. 29in a parking lot near theReversing Falls. She was found in a different part of town near Anthony's Cove Roadon Saturday afternoon, according to Saint John police.

Police were called to the Red Head area of Saint John after the body was found in thearea by a woman walking her dog.

Her body has been taken to the Saint John Regional Hospital for a medical review.

Police haven't released any more details. But Sgt. Jay Henderson said foul play hasn't been ruled out.

Family friend Amanda Hensey is pleading for anyone with information to tell police so the family can find closure.

"If anybody has anything, especially at this point now where we know something did happen to her, if anybody has been holding on to something they didn'tthink was important, any suspicious activity, anything like that,please, please contact the police," she said. "The family knows what has happened now, but nobody knows the why or how.

"They're going toneed some support to get through this.They're a very strong family, I've been amazed at their ability to deal with everythingthus far. Avery,very sad thing and so unexplainedthat it's going to be a lot for them to deal with, but they are strong people so I really have the best faith that they're going to be able to deal with this well."

The discovery marks the closure of an extensivevolunteer search for the Saint John High School student.Dozens of people had helpedcombthe area for the teen.

The results of anautopsyare expected on Monday.
