Detour update: Fredericton's Greenwood Drive set to close this week

If you live on the north side of Fredericton, you might want to leave a few extra minutes early to get to work on time.

Greenwood Drive on the north side to close for 5 to 6 weeks during sewer and paving work

If you live on the north side of Fredericton, you might want to leave a few extra minutes early to get to work on time.

Starting this week, Greenwood Drive inFredericton is going to be closed for repairs.

The road is expected to be closed totraffic between Birch Crescent and the Route 8 intersection for the next five to six weeks.

GregMcCann, a project engineer with the City of Fredericton, said the city is installing anew water sanitary sewer and storm sewer system and putting down curbing andasphalt pavement in the area.

Transit users who live betweenbetween CarmanAvenue and the Route 8 intersection will be provided a taxi service by the City of Fredericton. Residentswill need to purchase a monthly bus pass and then call transit, which will arrange for a taxi to get them downtown to Kings Place and home again.

More construction down the road

McCann said projects include construction work along Two Nations Crossing, which will face some lane restrictions until late June. Final projects in that area includenew curbing and asphalt pavement.

Installation of the Lincoln sanitary force main and an upgrade of the Aquarius lift station,will mean a full trail closure from Aquarius Street to Lincoln Road and from Lincoln Road to Wilsey Road until Sept. 1.

The Nashwaak Trail is closed until July 7 for installation of a sanitary mainfrom Barker Street to Canada Street.

Wallace Avenue between Main Street and Maple Street is closed to traffic until Sept. 1.

Preston Drive isclosed to traffic from Maple Streetuntil Sept. 15.

Cedar Avenue, between Maple and Fulton Avenue, is closed this weekuntil July 10.

Work in Sunset Drive area

By the end of the week, awater main will be extended onthe trail fromClaremontDrive to Ruby Street in the Sunset Drive area of the north side, which will be closed to traffic.Crews will also be paving.

In coming weeks, major projects include Sunset Drive will have a full street closure from Main Street to Bailey Avenue to upgradewater, sanitary sewer and storm sewer mains on Sunset. Curbing, sidewalks and asphalt surfacing will also be done. Traffic willbe rerouted to the Ring Road.

"They won't be able to access Main Street for five or six weeks while construction is taking place," he said.

Replacement of a culvert at Phyllis Creek will close Woodstock Road from Marlborough Drive to Hanwell Road. Truck traffic will be rerouted to theHanwellRoad and Prospect Street West.

Replacement of a culvert along Waterloo Row will keep the road closed to through traffic from Dunns Crossing Road to Forest Hill Road. During the closure coming up in the summer, traffic will be rerouted through to Wilsey Road, Kimble Drive and Forest Hill Road.
