19-year-old killed in Route 8 head-on crash in Williamstown

A 19-year-old Gray Rapids manis dead following a head-on collisionon Highway 8 in Williamstown, early Monday morning.

The crash happened shortly after 7:30 a.m. and closed part of Route 8 in Williamstown, a rural communitybetween Blackville and Miramichi.

"The collision is believed to have occurred when a northbound car crossed the centre line and collided with a truck travelling southbound," saidCpl.JullieRogers-Marsh, a spokesperson for the RCMP.

Police said the man driving the car died at the scene.

Theman driving the truck was taken totheMiramichiRegionalHospital hospital with minor injuries.There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

Rogers-Marsh isn't sure howlong the road will be closed,but acollision reconstructionist was atthe scene.

Police are still investigating.
