Kennebecasis Regional Police Force suspends officer

A member of the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force has been suspended following an internal complaint at the department.

Deputy Chief Steve Palmer confirmed in a statement that the member will remain suspended from active duty until an investigation into the allegation is complete. Palmer declined to comment any further about the nature of the suspension orwhom it involves.

The New Brunswick Police Commission,which is mandated to oversee the management of the public complaints process into the conduct of police officers, had nothing to say on the matter. Executive director Steve Roberge said the body never confirms or denies whether an investigation is ongoing. Roberge said that practice is in place to protect the integrity of police officers.

The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force serves both Rothesay and Quispamsis. The force consists of 39 full-time officers and five civilian staff.

Matthew Alexander, who is the chair of the regional police board and deputy mayor of Rothesay, declined to comment on the matter.
