Liam Turgeon wins first N.B. medal at Canada Games

Team New Brunswick can thank Liam Turgeon of Tide Head for putting the team on the medal count board at the Canada Games.

Turgeon won the bronze medal in shot put on Tuesday with a distance of 14.66 metres at the University of Manitoba Stadium in Winnipeg.

The distance was a personal best for Turgeon.

"I knew that I was throwing well in practice, and I just had to transition it into the competition," Turgeon said.

"Everything came together today. I only needed one to let it count."

In first and second spots were Joseph Maxwell, who threw a distance of 17.32 metres, and Eli Pawliw, who threw 17.22.

Turgeon's medal comes on the fourth day of competition at the Canada Games.
