Fredericton march promotes an end to violence against women

Dozens of people marched down Queen Street in Fredericton on Wednesday to showing support for a campaign by men to end violence against women.

Rina Arseneaultofthe Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research at the University of New Brunswick saidmen and women need to work together to end the violence.

"Men need to start defining masculinity differently," said Arseneault.

"We need to start being together, we need to have equality about men and women together, walking, trying to eliminate violence against women."

Marchers included Fredericton's mayor and members of the White Ribbon Campaign.

The volunteer group Men Against Violence Against Women was formed 16 years ago.

The campaign calls itself the world's largest movement of males working to end violence against women, promote gender equity, healthy relationships and a new vision of masculinity.
