Special Olympics N.B. nabs 22 medals at winter games

Special Olympics N.B. is bringing home 22 medals from the 2016 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games.

The team brings home eight gold medals, five silver and nine bronze from Corner Brook, Newfoundland

Special Olympics N.B. brought home22 medals from the 2016Special Olympics Canada Winter Games.

The games wrapped up Saturday in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, but teams returned to their home provinces a little later than expected after a winter storm delayed flights out of the province.

The team won medalsin snowshoeing, speed skating, and figure skating. The team also participated in floor hockey and curling.

Snowshoeing

Patty Connorstook home two medals in the 100-metreand 200-metreraces in her division.

Jennifer Jackson won a medal in each colour:gold in the 100, silver in the 200and bronze in the 400.

Rudi Kennedy-Mills won a gold medal in the 200,and Chris Grant took bronze for the 100race in his division.

Speedskating

The speedskating team wona total of 15 medals for their efforts on the ice.

Jonathan Henry won two gold medals in the 777-metre and 222-metreraces andsilver in the 333-metre racein his division.

Teammate Veronique LeBlanc won gold medals in the 777and 222races, a silver medal in the 500and a bronze medal in the 333 in her division.

Nicolas Maillet won gold in the 222in his division, a silver in the 333and two bronze medals in both the 777 and 500races.

Speed skater Brendon Vriesendorp won two silver medals in the 333and 500and two bronze medals inthe 777and 1000M races in his division.

Figure skating

In figure skating Molly Kane won gold and Janie McGraw won silver for their performances.
