Morningstar murder trial to resume Tuesday with closing statements

Devin Morningstar's first-degree murder trial in the death of Baylee Wylie will continue on Tuesday

The first-degree murder trial of Devin Morningstarwill continue on Tuesday after defence lawyerRobert Rideout decidednot to enter evidence.

Morningstar is charged with killing 18-year-old Baylee Wylie last December. Wylie was found dead in a burned-out triplex on Sumac Street. He was stabbed more than200 times, and Morningstar told police he inflicted three of the wounds.

The Crown called its last witnesses on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the court heard testimony from Claude Leblanc, a friend of Morningstar's, whosaid the two are "closer than brothers."

Leblanc picked Morningstar up on Sumac Street after the killing. He testified that Morningstar seemed upset but didn't talk about what was bothering him.

"He's a good guy," Leblanc said of Morningstar.

Two other people are charged in the death of Wylie. Tyler Noel will go on trial in October 2017, and Marissa Shephard will be in court in May for a preliminary hearing.
