New Brunswick reviewing MVIs

Motor Vehicle Inspections are the focus of a review by theNew Brunswickgovernment.

The province is asking the public and police if the inspection system should be updated.

The review also includesother motor vehicle issues, such as impaired driving, graduated drivers licences and emissions tests.

Officials with the Department of Public Safety are holding a private meeting with stakeholders in Moncton next Tuesday, followed by public meetings in Miramichi, Saint John and Moncton.

Nova Scotia changed its MVI system in 2009. It exempts new cars for the first three years, thenvehicles areinspected every two years after that.

Prince Edward Island studied a similar systembut backed off and kept annual inspections.
