Residents asked to report storm damage

Moncton residents affected by flooding brought on by tropical storm Danny last weekend are being encouraged to contact the city and provincial governments.

It only took a few minutes for the 96 millimetres of rain that deluged Moncton last weekend to begin flooding some homes, particularly in the northwest end of the city.

Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc said it has taken almost a week to measure the extent of the damage.

"It's been slow coming in actually we started off thinking there were 30 homes affected and now we're up to 100 or so now," LeBlanc said.

Although the hardest hit area was in the city's northwest corner, LeBlanc said there are homes all over Moncton with water in the basement.

The mayor said the more people who call, the easier it'll be for the city to figure out what went wrong.

LeBlanc said city workerswill help haul away any debris from people who aren't insured. He said people should also call the city's legal department.

Meanwhile, the Department of Public Safety's Emergency Measures Organization is asking people who experienced some flooding to report their damage to Service New Brunswick.

Saint John also faced significant flooding in some areasafter the storm swept through the region on the weekend.
