One person taken to hospital after report of shooting near Riverview High School

School will be closed Wednesday, RCMP says injuries were 'non-life-threatening'

One person was taken to hospital and classes have been cancelled Wednesday following a report of a shooting near Riverview High School on Tuesday afternoon.

Codiac RCMPhave released little information about the incident other than to confirmthere was a "report of a shooting" and related injuries.

"Earlier this evening, Codiac RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in Riverview. One person was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries," the force posted on its Twitter account Tuesday night.

On Tuesday evening, the Anglophone East School District referenced "a serious incident" that occurred on school property after dismissal.

On its Twitter account, the district said the school will be closed Wednesday.

In an interview with CBC News on Tuesday, the mayor of the town of Riverview, which is just southeast of Moncton,says RCMP have assured her there's no risk to the public.

Ann Seamanssaid RCMPupdated herafter they responded to a shooting incident and closed off the area around the high school.

"I don't have all the information at this time, other than what I'm hearing is that they have it in control and confident that there's no danger to our citizens," she said.

Seamans said she was not sure if any students were involved.

Seamanssaidshe got the alert from the RCMP after5 p.m., and that she hoped all students and teachers were safe because classes end at 3:30 p.m.

"It was well after school hours," she said.

RCMP have not responded to requests for further information.
