4 new impaired-related charges laid in Fredericton crash

A Fredericton man will face four more charges in connection with an alleged impaired driving accident that seriously injured two people on a motorcycle.

A Fredericton manwill face four more charges in connection with analleged impaired driving accident that seriously injured two people on a motorcycle.

The new charges were laid during what was scheduled to be a bail hearing forRobert Shannon, 40.

The chargesincludetwo counts of driving over the legal limit and two counts of causing bodily harm, one for each victim.

The bail hearing has been set aside yet again.Shannon's bail hearing has already been delayed once after his lawyer Ron Morris was unable to represent him on June 24. Shannon will return to court July 20, but Morris says his client may waive his right to a bail hearing.

"I suspect there won't be a need [for a bail hearing]," said Morris.

The new charges are inaddition to other charges relating to this incident, two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, one count of breach of a judge's undertaking and one count of driving with a suspended licence.

The charges were laid after a collision on June 19 between an SUV and a motorcycle. The collision occurred about 6:30 p.m. in a traffic circle at the intersection ofCliffeStreet and Two Nations Crossing and resulted in the streets being closed for 4.5 hours while police investigated.

Shannon is already facing charges for drinking and driving and driving with a suspended licence in relation to an earlier incident that took place in April.
