St. Stephen man, 36, dies after being struck by vehicle

A 36-year-old man from St. Stephen has died after he was struck by a vehicle in Oak Bay.A 25-year-old woman has been charged, police say.

A 36-year-old man from St. Stephen has died after he was struck by a vehicle in Oak Bay.

St. Stephen RCMPsay they responded to the incident on Sunday at about 5:20 a.m.

They said a vehicle travelling east on Route 170 collided with apedestrian,who died at the scene about nine kilometres northeast of St. Stephen.

A 25-year-old woman operating the vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She was arrested and charged with operating a conveyance in a manner resulting indeath.

Cpl. Jayson Hansen said the charge could be modifiedas the investigation into the incident continues.

Two other passengers were in the vehicle and were not injured.

Hansen said the 36-year-old was in the middle of the road when he was struck, but it is unclear whether he was crossing the road or walking in the centre of it.

Route 170, where the incident took place, is a secondary highway lined with commercial buildings and some residential properties.
