Warnings, but no major flooding yet in New Brunswick

Water levels have been rising in New Brunswick, but so far there's been no reports of major flooding.

Heavy rain is on the way to the region, however, with Environment Canada forecasting up to 50 millimetres as a low pressure system crosses the Maritimes on Tuesday.

New Brunswicks River Watch issued an advisory on Friday and said above-freezing temperatures and rain could createice jams along waterways.

It warned of possible flooding and urged people to be careful around rivers and streams. It said residents whose homes aresusceptible to flooding should move belongings to higher ground and have an emergency kit on hand.

On Sunday, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety saidwater levels are up due to rain and thaw, but there are no reports of major issues.

The Fredericton Fire Department said there were no problems yet.A business owner in Perth-Andover, another flood-prone area, told CBC News the river remains fairly low.

One problem spot is Dieppe, where water from a marsh has flooded a road.

There are mounting concerns about what the spring flood season will bring, followingheavy snowfall this winter and temperatures in March that were lower than normal.
