2nd woman dead following head-on crash near Arnold's Cove

A second woman involved in a fatal head-on crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Arnold's Cove last week has died.

A second woman involved in a fatal head-on collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Arnold's Cove last week has died.

The 22-year-old woman was the driver of a Hyundai Elantra that collided with a Chevrolet Equinox SUVon the highway on Jan. 21.

The woman had been transported to hospital in Clarenville and was transferred to St. John'sbut succumbed to her injuries.

A passenger inthe Elantra, also a 22-year-old woman, died at the scene.

The RCMP are continuing its investigation, which involved a blood sample taken from the driver of the Chevrolet Equinox. Police said in a press release after the crash that the 71-year-old driver of the Equinox showed signs of impairment.

The investigation could result in the man facing charges of impaired driving causing death, said the press release.

  • A previous version of this story said the driver of the Elantra died at the scene and the passenger recently succumbed to her injuries. In fact, it was the passenger who died at the scene.
