Bail hearing wraps up for accused killer Kenny Green

The bail hearing for accused murderer Kenny Green has concluded in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.

A bail hearingfor accused murdererKenny Green has concluded.

Greenis charged in connection with a slaying at a drug house in downtown St. John's.

Because of the emotional nature of the case, there was increased security at Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador on Thursdaymorning for the hearing. Spectators coming into court were screened, although no weapons were found.

Green, 34, is charged with the second-degree murder of Joey Whalen.

Whalen was brutally beaten inside what was known as a drug house on Tessier Place in March. Hedied four days later in hospital.

Green is also charged with trying to escape unlawful custody later in March. He was in the Waterford Hospital for a seven-day psychiatric assessment at the time.

Green's lawyer, Randy Piercey, laid out his argument for why Green should be allowed out on bail.

Crown Prosecutor Robin Fowler argued the opposite, saying Green should remain in custody.

Green also has a criminal record that includes drug trafficking and conspiracy to sell drugs. In 2004, he was sentenced to five years in prison.

Justice Donald Burrage is expectedto give his decision late next week.
