Bedbugs discovered at St. John's nursing home

Bedbugs were found over the weekend at a long-term care facility in the east end of St. John'sbut have since been exterminated, according to Eastern Health.

In a statement, the health authoritytold CBC News thatthe bedbugs were discoveredin a single resident room at Pleasant View Towers on June 3 and pest control was contacted immediately.

"A single room underwent an extermination and isolation precautions of that room were put in place," the statement read.

Eastern Health said pest control did a follow-up assessment on June 6, and all areas were then deemed to be free of bedbugs.

Pleasant View Towersis the newest and largest nursing home in St. John's, with 460 beds for residents who need Level 3 or Level 4 care.

It opened in 2014, replacing the Hoyles-Escasoni complex.
