Nearly 4,000 people expected to face cancer diagnosis in N.L. this year

New cancer rate statistics fromacross Canada have been released, and it'sestimatedhundredswill die from the disease this year in Newfoundland and Labrador and even more will be diagnosed.

The Canadian Cancer Statistics 2017 report was released Tuesday by the Canadian Cancer Societyin partnership with the Public Health Agency of Canada and Statistics Canada.

The report provides updatedstatistics forcancer across the country, including the sobering estimatethat nearly one in two Canadians will face a cancer diagnosis at some point in their life.

Prostate and breast cancermost common

In Newfoundland and Labrador, an estimated 3,900 people will be diagnosed with cancer in 2017, with 1,550 expected to die from the disease, according to the report.

It also saysthat prostate cancer is the most common form of the disease faced by men in the province, with 450 expected to be diagnosed this year.

For women, breast cancer remains the most diagnosed from of cancer in Newfoundland and Labrador, with an estimated 510 to be diagnosed in 2017.
