'Caribou Legs' closes cross-country run for MMIW in St. John's

Six months, one country, one cause.

Ultra-runner Brad Firth, also known as 'Caribou Legs,' ran into St. John's on Sunday morning, to cap off his cross-country marathon to raise awarenessabout missing and murdered Indigenous women and domestic violence.

Flanked by several dozen running and cheering local supporters, Firth received a warm welcome on a mauzy day.

"I'm feeling elated. I'm feeling tired. I'm feeling kind of excited, and that sense of overwhelming," said Firth.

His 7,400 kilometre run along the Trans Canada Highway started six months ago, on Mother's Day, in British Columbia.

"I still want to raise awareness around the injustices out there. There's badly needed attention with violence against women," he said at St. John's City Hall.

Caribou Legs said he is already looking ahead to his next run, planningto cross Canada again next summer to shine a light on the suffering of children who lived and died in the residential school system.
