Charges pending against FISH-NL supporter for alleged threats at FFAW meeting

The RCMP said a man was arrested and charges are pending in relation to threats he allegedly made against Fish, Food and Allied Workers staff at a meeting on the Burin Peninsula in November.

The RCMP saysa man was arrested and charges are pending in relation to threats he allegedly made against Fish, Food and Allied Workersstaff at a meeting on the Burin Peninsula in November.

The arrest comes after an incident at anFFAWmeeting in Fortune on Nov. 1, when fish harvester Wayne Meade told a FFAWrepresentative that he would "knock his head off and shit down his neck."

Meade later told CBC he regretted making the comments, but insistedthey were not meant to be taken literally.

Charges not officially laid

"I can confirm that a man was arrested and released for a later court date," said Cpl. Trevor O'Keefe in an email to CBC News on Thursday.

"Charges are pending but have not been officially laid yet."

O'Keefe wouldn'tconfirm if the charge is against Wayne Meade.

Members of the FFAWsaid Meadewas wearing a Federation of Independent Seafood Harvesters [FISH-NL] hat at the Nov. 1 meeting, when he "pounded on the table" and threatened "bloodshed."

FISH-NLhead Ryan Clearylater disavowed Meades's comments, and said they do not represent the breakaway union.
