Man travelling with 4th suspect in Steven Miller killing turns himself in

A Newfoundland and Labrador man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection with the abduction and homicide of Steven Miller on July 30 took a ferry to Nova Scotia, say police.

Police are looking for the public's help locating another suspect in the July 30 abduction and homicide of Steven Miller. A Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for 23-year-old Chesley John Lucas of Paradise

A Newfoundland and Labrador man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection with theabduction and homicide of Steven Miller on July 30 took a ferry to Nova Scotia, say police.

Meanwhile, the man he was believed to be travelling with has turned himself in to police in Halifax.

Const. Geoff Higdonof the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC)said earlier Monday thatpolice have confirmed Chesley Lucas, 23, of Paradise, boarded a Marine Atlantic ferry in Argentia, N.L., on Saturday around 5 p.m. NTand arrived in North Sydney, N.S., on Sunday morning.

Police said Lucas is also known as CJ or Chesley Clarke.

Higdonrepeated the police's request for help fromCanadiansin locatingLucas, asuspect in the killing of Miller, a 25-year-old who was taken from a Conception Bay South, N.L., home by armed and masked intruders.

Police are asking the public for assistance in locating Chesley John Lucas, also known as CJ Lucas or Chesley Clarke. He is wanted as a fourth suspect in the homicide of Steven Miller. (RNC)

The RNC said Lucas is considered armed and dangerous, and are asking anyone who sees himto call them with any information on his whereabouts and not to approach him.

He isdescribed as:

  • Five-foot-seven.
  • Brownhair.
  • Hazel eyes.

Lucas is wanted for first-degree murder, forcible confinement, robbery and arson in relation to theseries of events duringwhichMiller was violently abducted.

Police were also looking for Brady Myler, 21, who they believed was travelling with Lucas. The RNC tweeted Monday afternoon that he had turned himself in.

They said Myler is not considered a suspect in Miller's death. He waswanted on separate charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of stolen goods and theft under $5,000.

Higdon wouldn't comment Monday afternoon on anyrelationship between Myler and Lucas.

The RNC also flagged police detachments in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick on social media, asking them to be aware that Lucas is wanted and at large.

Fourth suspect

Miller's body was found in a driveway in Bayview Heights,a few kilometres from the home, with multiple stab wounds.

It's believed the intruders also set fire to the home, as police say it was engulfed in flames when they arrived.

On Thursday, police arrested three men.Paul Connolly, 35, and Calvin Kenny, 25, both from St. John's, andKyle Morgan, 19, from Paradise. They were charged Friday with first-degree murder, forcible confinement, robbery and arson.

On Sunday, police and multiple marked and unmarked vehicleswere in the Trails End area of Paradise. Neighbours said it was Morgan's home..

The RNCconfirmed toCBC News that officers with theCriminal Investigation Division were on the scene, but did not provide any further detail.

Corrections

  • A previous version of this story said Brady Myler was wanted in connection with the death of Steven Miller. In fact, police said Myler is not a suspect in the kidnapping and death of Miller. He is facing unrelated charges.
