City of St. John's kicks parking ban into effect

The snow came early for the people of St. John's, and so did the on-street parking ban.

The city has announced the ban will come into effect early hours Thursday. No parking will be permitted on streets outside the downtown area between 12:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. daily.

"Tickets will be issued continuously while the ban is in effect, regardless of snow or street conditions," arelease from the city reads.

In addition to the normal ban, there will be no parking allowed on sections of Duckworth and Water Streets between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.

The ban is expected to last until April, or whensnow clearingis no longer a problem.
