Meet Hanna Furs, newcomer artist in residence at the C.B.S. Library

From now until August, community members can meet and create art with Hanna Furs, a multidisciplinary Ukrainian artist now living in Paradise with a passion for telling stories and a curiosity for the world around her.

Hanna, the newcomer artist in residence at the Conception Bay South Public Library, willcreate art that combines the rich cultural heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador with the vibrant traditions of Ukraine and other cultures.

"I hope to share my diverse experiences and perspectives on creating artworks that promote connection, understanding, and recognition among community members," said Hanna. "I aim to create unique and inspiring work that will serve as a testament to the power of art to bring people together and contribute to a stronger community."

Create art with Hanna

Hanna is offering four free community workshops during her residency.

On June 10 from 1-3:30 p.m., join Hanna at the C.B.S Library for aPysanky workshop, the Ukrainian tradition of egg decorating. Participants will decorate eggs using a kistka, a special pen that holds hot wax.Open to participants age 14 and up. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Monotype: Participants will make prints through drawing or painting on smooth surfaces. Open to participants age sevenand up. (July 8, 1-3:30 p.m. C.B.S Library.Register here)

Motanka: Participants will learn how to make traditional Ukrainian dolls. Open to participants age seven and up. (July 15, 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., A.C. Hunter Library Community room. Register here)

Open studio hours

Every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Aug.16Hanna will host "open studio." Drop by the library to meet Hanna and watch her creating art live.

The newcomer artist in residence is a partnership between the CBC and Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries.
