Eastern Health confirms tuberculosis case in St. John's

Eastern Health has confirmed a tuberculosis diagnosis in a former patient of St. Clare's Mercy Hospital in St. John's.

Eastern Health has confirmed a tuberculosis diagnosis in a former patient of St. Clare's Mercy Hospital in St. John's.

The patient was an inpatient in the hospital this summer and was discharged on Sept.11. Eastern Health said the patient did not have symptoms of tuberculosis whilein hospital.

Public health officials are currently identifying those who may have had close contact with this patient so that they can arrange for tuberculosis testing.

Close contacts are defined as those who have regular, prolonged contact with a person who has untreated tuberculosis.

Eastern Health says this case is not related to recent cases of TB in Labrador.
