Trucks collide on Elizabeth Avenue, taking down crosswalk sign

Two pickup trucks collided at a busy intersection in the east end of St. John's during rush hour Thursday morning, delaying traffic.

Two pickup trucks collided at a busy intersection in the east end of St. John's during rush hour Thursday morning, delaying traffic.

Both trucks sustained significant damage to the front end and sideportions of the vehicles after collidingat Elizabeth Avenue and Newtown Road.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was called to the scene around 8 a.m.

Police said the accident happened when onetruck failed to stop at the stop sign.

A crosswalk pole and light was taken down during the collision.

By 9 a.m., tow trucks had taken the damaged vehicles away and cleared the scene.

No injuries were reported to police.
