Fraud convictions added to Lewis sentence

A St. John's man who was sentenced to 9 years in prison last week for his role in a brutal home invasion will be staying in jail even longer.

A St. John's man who wasgiven a lengthyprison sentence last week for his role in a brutal home invasion will be staying in a celleven longer.

Dean Lewis, 32, was sentenced last week to 9years in prisonfor instigating and planning an April 2009 robbery inside a home in the east end of St. John's.

Three men terrorized an older couple while they sought $6,000. Lewis had overheard another inmate once describe the cash while he was incarcerated at Her Majesty's Penitentiary.

On Tuesday, Lewis was given a separate six-month sentence for using a forged credit card.

Court was told that Lewis used the card on the same day that the home invasion took place, and that he used the card to defraud stores in the Avalon Mall and elsewhere.

Lewis pleaded guilty to 10 fraud charges in connection with the fake card, as well as two breaches of court orders.
