From July Talk to Shanneyganock, a sampling of George Street Fest acts

The nearly-completelineup for George Street Festival 2016 was announced this week.

But before tickets go on sale Saturday, youmay wantget acquainted with some of the acts gracing the stage this summer.

Below, you'll find a sampling of songs from some of the bands set to perform in St. John's. Hopefully this will help you make your decision about which night(s) to go down.

Our Lady Peace

If you're Canadian, you likely already know at least one Our Lady Peace song.

The Toronto-based band has been around since the early1990s and has released eight albums.

But if you're not familiar, check out Superman's Dead.

Arkells

The Arkells, from Hamilton, Ont., are getting ready to release their latest album Morning Report Aug. 5 just days after their show in St. John's.

On that album will be the band's latest single Private School.

So check that out below, ahead of the festival.

Platinum Blonde

A pop band from Toronto, Platinum Blonde has been performing and touring for decades. Their first EP was released in 1983.

Their St. John's stop is part of a Canadian summer tour.

Check out Crying Over You (and just try to not belt out that intro).

The Trews

The Trews are from Nova Scotia, now based in Toronto, and are no strangers to this province.

They released their first album back in 2003, and released their fifth album The Trews in 2014.

Check out their live performance of Hope & Ruin from 2011 for an idea of what you can expect this summer.

July Talk

A blues-alt rock band from Toronto, July Talk released their debut album in 2012. Since then, they've been touring with acts including Tegan and Saraand Arkells.

July Talk has a new album due out later this year, but in the meantime check out their video for Paper Girl.

Repartee

Originally from St. John's, Repartee relocated to Toronto, where they recorded their debut album All Lit Up.

That album was just released this year, and features their single Dukes.

Shanneyganock

Chances are, if you're reading this in N.L., you know who Shanneyganockare.

The St. John's-based band is a staple of the downtown music scene.

You probably already know all the words, but check out a recording of Shanneyganock performing The Islander.

The Mahones

The Mahones, or the Irish Punk Brigade, are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year.

Their recent albums, The Hunger & The Fight parts one and two, were released in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Alan Doyle

The frontman of Great Big Sea, Alan Doyle is a household name in Newfoundland and Labrador and the rest of Canada.

Doyle will be taking the stage for George Street Fest with the Beautiful Gypsies.
