Girl, 8, discovers trilobite fossils in C.B.S.

An eight-year-oldgirl has assembled her owncollection of trilobite fossils,which she dug up near her home in Conception Bay South.

Isadora Barnes told CBC's St. John's Morning Showthis weekthe fossils she discoveredare like the trilobitesdiscovered.at Manuel's River.

"My grandmother and I were out on a walk and we came upon a man, who was digging. My Nan and himgot into a conversation, and the man showed my nan a picture of a fossil on the phone," she said.

"And a couple of days later, we started digging, then we both hit something. We didn't know what it was until we took it out, and it was a fossil."

Barnes' mother Gailsaid her daughter's discoveries have come as quite the surprise.

"I was really excited, I was also really surprised that they had found so many fossils, and where they had found them," she said.

"Because I had no idea that there were any there I thought all of the fossils were in Manuel's River, so when we found fossils that were so close to home, it was pretty cool."

Isadora Barnes said it's not just the fossils she's interested in, however.

"It's the fool's gold too," she said."Sometimes fool's gold comes with the fossils, but I only find little batches of it."

Barnes said she has a real interest in all-things fossil-related.

"I'm thinking about being a paleontologist. I'm just kind of into dinosaurs," she said.
