A young moose found itself face-to-face with a hunter this week in St. Anthony on Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula, but it wasn't for the reason you're thinking.

Hunter Kirby Reardonsaid he and his friend were moose hunting this week when they heard a thrashing sound coming from the woods.

As Reardon walked down a trail, he noticed what the source of the noise was.

"It was this year's calf that was caught by the front hoof in a coyotesnare," he told CBC News in an email Friday.

Reardon said his friend had brought along wire cutters, which were used to cut the snareoff.

He said the young animalappeared frightened.

Reardonrecognizesthe irony of it all, adding the moose "seemed no worsefor wear."
