Baby in hospital after being bitten by pit bull

A baby was sent to hospital withserious injuries after being bitten by afamily dog in Paradiseon Sunday afternoon.

The Royal NewfoundlandConstabulary said it was called to the home in theElizabeth Park neighborhood at2 p.m. on Sunday, in response to what it called an "animal-related" incident.

Const. Geoff Higdon saidthe family dog, a pitbull, had bitten an infant. Higdon says the babywas taken to the JanewayHospital in St. John's to be treated for serious injuries.

Higdon saidthe dog has been seized by police and is being kept in quarantine. An RNC investigation is ongoing, but he said it's too early to say whether charges will be laid, or what will happen to the dog.
