Kaiden's Force brings Mother's Day to the Janeway for 3rd year running

Mother's Day used to be a pretty quiet affair at the JanewayChildren's Hospital, for the third year in a row volunteers from Kaiden's Force have made it anything but.

Kaiden Little who lost a lengthy battle with cancer in January might not be in attendance this year, but his mother Danielle knew he would want the tradition to continue.

"For me it's something that we continue on to do in Kaiden's memory," Little said.

"And for the rest of our lives we're going to try to pay it forward and let people know we're here and supporting them."

Saturday saw the biggest turnout yet, with almost 30 mothers and their families registering to attend, and more joining throughout the day.

A wing of the hospital no longer in use was transformed into a venue filled with entertainment, food andways for moms to relax.

"Today the mothers are being treated to getting massages, hair styling, getting their nails done. We also have photographs being taken of moms and their kids," Little said.

Much appreciated

Teena Rumbolt was one of the moms in attendance and for her, it was a much appreciated and well needed day of recognition and relaxation. Her stepson is battling a rare form of cancer and it's taken a toll.

As much fun as she had, she almost didn't come.

"I probably didn't have any sleep the day before and they had to coaxed me to come down here and have a massage and my hair and everything done so when I came down I felt great," Rumbolt said.

"It was nice to be recognized and to have some me time."

But there was definitely some liveliness amongst the relaxing fair, with the Brandon Bowen Band teaming up with some talented kids to play some traditional Newfoundland music.

All in attendance were delighted at the sight of the adorable little musicians, but one special performancestood out.

Alexander Little, Kaiden's older brother, along with his friend Chloe Courage wrote a song in memory of Kaiden. The Mother's Day event was the first time they performed it.

Needless to say, there weren't many dry eyes left in the house.

"Yeah, it was a tear jerker. But he loved his brother and he still does. So of course that it's something that is quite special," Little said.

Organizers of the event say they are planning to continue this annual event as long as possible and continue to hope growing it year after year. They say their work couldn't be done without the hard work of volunteers and the generous donations from sponsors.
