Newbie beats out seasoned skiers for bronze in Labrador Games 10K

It may have been her first Labrador Winter Games, but one young athlete who competed in the women's cross-country ski event Wednesday is already looking forward to winning future races.

13 year old Alyson Thomas from L'Anse au Clair won bronze at the Women's Cross Country 10k today. It was her first games, and she says there are more in her future.

It may have been her first Labrador Winter Games, but one young athlete who competed in the women's cross-country ski event Wednesday is already looking forward to winning future races.

Alyson Thomas, 13, of L'Anse au Clairbeat out many seasoned skiersin the day's10-kilometre race at Birch Brook Nordic Ski Club in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Thomas said she's shocked by her medal-worthy performance.

"I was overwhelmed. Ididn't know what to think, it was like I didn't know what I was doing," said Thomas of the moment she crossed the finish line to take bronze.
