Land & Sea is celebrating its 50th anniversary. We have this archival moment from the 1960s

Land & Sea is celebrating 50 years on the air this season.

It's a chance to look back at the CBC Newfoundland and Labrador librarian Carolyn Atkinson has been digging out old footage that hasn't been seen in years, including this rare look at a unique way of life.

Schooners from the 1960s

Take a look back at what life was like on fishing schooners that fished on the Labrador every summer.

In this 1960s Land & Sea archival footage, we get a sense of the lives of these hard working fishermen.

Watch them as they scoop up huge cod fish from dories onto the deck of schooner and gut their catch as cigarettes dangle precariously from the corners of their mouths.

You might even spot a family member from long ago who made their living on the sea.

In fact, help us solve a Land & Sea mystery. If you can identify any of the people in the video, tell us who they are in our comment section.
