MacKay, Taylor to unveil 'important' spending announcement

A major spending announcement involving the federal and Newfoundland and Labrador governments is expected Monday in St. John's.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay, who represents Newfoundland and Labrador in the federal government, is scheduled to attend a news conference on Monday morning at a St. John's hotel.

Joining him will be Trevor Taylor, Newfoundland and Labrador's minister of transportation and works.

In a statement, Taylor's office said the two politicians would make an "important announcement."

Both levels of government have announced economic stimulus packages in recent months, designed to spark activity amid the recession.
