Man convicted in brutal home invasion

A St. John's man has been convicted for a home invasion, even though he didn't actually go into the house.

The judge concluded that Dean Lewis, 32, had shown the house to three men last April and that Lewis knew the men would rob the house.

The court heard evidence that Lewis knew there was money in the house because he overheard an inmate at Her Majesty's Penitentiary in St. John's talking about it.

A woman in the house was holding $6000 for her nephew, who was in the Penitentiary. During the robbery, one of the men put a gun to her head.

The robbers also hit her husband in the head several times with a hammer.

Several other people also have abeen charged following the invasion and are awaiting trial.

Lewis is scheduled to appear in court for a sentencing hearing in April.
