Marshall resigns over Williams' management

Health Minister Elizabeth Marshall has quit the provincial cabinet, saying she disagrees with the management style of Premier Danny Williams.

Marshall says Williams has made decisions involving her department without consulting or notifying her.

She says there have been a number of decisions over the last year the most recent being a decision to provide more money to end a VON strike in Corner Brook without consulting her.

"I told him yesterday I could not be an effective minister working under those conditions," she says.

Marshall says while she agrees with the direction the government is going in and its policies, she doesn't agree with "this style of management".

Marshall told Williams she was resigning on Sunday and delivered her resignation letter to the premier's office Monday morning. Her decision was officially announced in a government news release.

Marshall will stay on as the MHA for Topsail.

In a statement, Williams said he was disappointed to see Marshall leave cabinet.

"I respect her abilities, which is why I chose to place her in such a demanding and challenging department, and I am disappointed at her decision

to leave Cabinet at this time," Williams said.
