Driver walks away from moose-vehicle crash on Outer Ring Road

A driver walked away without injury following a moose-vehicle collision on the Outer Ring Road in St. John's Friday night.

A driver walked away without injuryfollowing a moose-vehicle collision on the Outer Ring Road in St. John's Friday night.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were called to an area betweenthe Portugal Cove Road andTorbayRoad exitsshortly before 11 p.m.

The vehicle hadto be towed from the scene.

Onemoose was killed as a result of the collision. Workers from the wildlife division arrived andremoved the animal.

Meanwhile, police were dispatched to LeMarchant Road in the city's downtown where another moose sighting was reported around 3:30 a.m.

Personnel with the Department of Environment and Conservation removed and relocated the animal.

Government is cautioning motorists to be vigilant and watch out for moose when driving on the province's roadways.

According to a release issued earlier this week, more than 70 per cent of moose-vehicle accidents occur between May and October.
