Newfoundland and Labrador will be given details of the province's fiscal situation and what measures will be taken to address the high deficitlevels when the provincial budget istabled in mid-April.

Finance Minister Cathy Bennett announced in a news release Tuesday morning that the budget will be delivered on April 14.

"We promised the people of the province that we would release our budget after the federal government announced their budget," Bennett said.

"Now that we have had the opportunity to review the budget details and the role it plays in the province's finances, we are in a position to finalize and release our budget, multi-year fiscal targets and our plan to deal with the unprecedented fiscal situation the province is facing."

The province has heard continuous warnings about the state of the public purse, as the drop in commodity prices hit the economy.

A deficit of $2.4 billion has been forecast for 2016-17.
