Gas prices drop across N.L. for 1st time in 3 weeks

Gas prices are down across Newfoundland and Labrador on Thursday after two weeks of increases that saw prices jump by almost 10 cents per litre.

The Public Utilities Board lowered the maximumprice for gasoline by 3.8 cents on Thursday. The change puts the price of gas on the Avalon Peninsula where it's typically cheapest at $1.656 per litre

Maximum prices differ depending on where you're located across the rest of the province, but now range between $1.66 and $1.83 per litre across Newfoundland and between $1.64 and $2.20 per litre across Labrador.

Prices for all other fuels are also down Thursday.

Diesel decreased by 4.9 cents across much of the province, except by a tenth of a cent less in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. The adjustment puts maximum prices between $1.78 and $1.90 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.85 and $2.59 per litre in Labrador.

The price of furnace oil decreased by over 4.2 cents per litre, meaning customers in Newfoundland will now pay between $1.13 and $1.31 per litre depending on their location.

Stove oil decreased by over 4.1 cents per litre across much of the province, except by over 4.2 cents in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. Maximum prices for the fuel now range between $1.11 and $1.29 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.22 and just over $1.94 per litre in Labrador.

Propane saw the smallest fluctuation, down 2.4 cents per litre. The change means maximum prices now range between 96 cents and $1.09 per litre in Newfoundland and between 82 cents and $1.27 per litre in Labrador.
