The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has wrapped up its investigation into the death of a 35-year-old inmate at Her Majesty's Penitentiary last December.

"The investigation is now concluded," RNC Const. James Cadigan wrote in an email to CBC News Friday.

"There have been no charges laid."

Flynn died after being taken to hospital on Dec. 2.

On Dec. 20, Cadigan said a report by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner led police to investigate the circumstances leading up to Flynn's death.

The RNCconfirmedthe investigation is now complete, in response to an inquiry from CBC News seeking an update on its status.

Weeks before his death, Flynn called CBC News to allege that he had been beaten unnecessarily by guards in October.

Inmates have raised questions about conditions at the penitentiary around the time of his death.

Flynn's family has expressed concerns about why he didn't get medical attention sooner.
